Recently graduated from the community of women at the College of Saint Benedict, Lynnae had spent her time on campus working towards enlarging and building the support of current students by working as a student representative at the Phonathon. Lynnae will soon complete her internship with the Merrill Arts Center as a Development Associate Intern; she hopes to continue to take steps to become a grant writer so that she may help community-based organizations to receive the funding and support they need for them to continue their good work helping others. When Lynnae has her nose out of her books and her pen down, she likes to spend time travelling where she tries to learn as much about the culture, people, and history of the places she is visiting.

Megan Briggs

Megan is a Registered Nurse in the great town of Saint Paul at a local Transitional Care Unit. She has completed her associate in nursing degree and is currently working on her bachelor’s degree through the program at Minnesota State University Moorhead. When Megan is not working or completing school work, she enjoys traveling domestically and internationally with her significant other. In the last 6 years, she has traveled to 11 different states and 7 different countries! One of her greatest accomplishments, was being able to travel to Spain to learn about their culture and family dynamics for seven weeks. If Megan was not a nurse, her other career choice would be wedding planning. Megan is originally from Florida; she moved to Minnesota two years ago.

Amanda Van Ert

Amanda was born and raised in St. Paul and as a little girl, she can remember going to the Grand Day parade. She specifically remembers the royal family glowing with joy, embracing the aspects of their characters, and knowing she wanted to be just like them one day. In 2011, Amanda became involved in carnival, which flourished her passion for volunteerism, inspiring others, and embracing different communities and cultures. Amanda recently graduated with honors from UW-Stout with her BS in Psychology. She plans to continue her education by attending law school to become an attorney with an emphasis in public international law. Amanda loves traveling to new places around the world and plans to one day say she has been to all 50 states, 7 continents, and 7 wonders of the world.

Alyssa Grythe

Alyssa Graduated in May 2018 from the University of St. Thomas where her passion for helping families and children drove her to pursue a degree in social work. She has hopes of one day getting her J.D. in law and becoming a family attorney. Growing up in a large family has pushed her to want to give back to other families, and to help keep them intact and strong. Alyssa is currently an Assistant Manager at Salon Ultimo in Woodbury. In her spare time, she enjoys being with her family, watching sports including cheerleading, and finding new ways to volunteer in her community. She likes to coordinate philanthropic events, and even tutoring in reading and math. A fun fact about Alyssa, she has a 9-month-old yellow lab named Theo.

Tiara Gowen

As a Christmas Eve baby, Tiara brings to life the spirit of giving through her cheerful nature. Tiara’s passion for technology led her to becoming a Senior Risk Consultant at Ernst and Young. Tiara attended the University of St. Thomas obtaining a degree in Accounting in May of 2017. She plans to obtain her master’s from in Security Technologies or Cybersecurity which will allow her to apply for the FBI. Outside of technology, Tiara’s passions emerge as she enjoys giving back, traveling, and playing cards with her family. As a Hopkins native, Tiara hopes to bring her west side roots to the east side of the river by spreading the spirit of Winter Carnival and continuing to carry on this 134-year-old tradition.

Cathryn is a Regulatory Affairs consultant at a small consulting company in Minneapolis. She has a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Regulatory Affairs. Cathryn’s family and friends are very important to her and she enjoys spending time with them. She enjoys solving puzzles, reading and watching movies. She is very hard-working and is dedicated to the activities that she decides to pursue. Her rescue dog is very important to her and she enjoys spending time with Rue. Kim truly enjoys all aspects of her city. She resides in Apple Valley with her independent five-year-old daughter Danielle and her husband Bryan. Being involved with her community has been her focal point since High School when she joined the military at the age of 17, and now will proudly retire from the Minnesota Army National Guard with 20 years of service. With her assignments primarily in St Paul, Kim adored the traditions within the city. The main rewarding factor she has received from being in her community is meeting Bryan and recently tying the knot in New Orleans. Kim’s career consists of being the Women Veteran and Gold Star Family Coordinator for MDVA. She finds it rewarding to help other Veterans and families that serve our Country.

Kirstin is a small-town girl with big city dreams. Growing up in Isanti, she has a passion for the outdoors and loves the energy of the cities. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 2016 from St. Catherine University. She then received her Master of Science in Education for school counseling at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. She is currently at her dream job as a middle school counselor for a small charter school in Woodbury. When Kirstin is not helping her students, she is either working on her new house with her boyfriend, or at various spots around the twin cities. Since being introduced to the St Paul Winter Carnival in 2011 it has always been Kirstin’s dream to not only be a part of but to also carry on the 134-year-old tradition.

Aly Vogel

Growing up in a family involved with the Saint Paul Winter Carnival, Aly has had a great love for the festival since she was young and is looking forward to continuing the involvement. Aly earned her Bachelor’s degree in Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management from the University of Wisconsin – Stout and currently works for Washington County. Aly enjoys volunteering with the St. Paul Winter Carnival Jr. Royalty and received the Aquatennial Honorary Commodore’s award for her voluntarism. In her free time, she enjoys reading, knitting, baking, and spending time with her family.

Kara Wattunen

Kara has a background in marketing and public relations, as well as wildlife and forestry conservation. For the past 11 years she has worked in the Hopkins School district, utilizing her wildlife and forestry background to help start a school yard garden program. She was named, by the state of Minnesota, the School Yard Garden Innovator of the Year in 2016 and 2017. Kara also travels the country as a professional angler, competing in walleye and bass fishing tournaments. Seeking new heights, Kara decided to pursue her underlying passion of aviation. Kara is currently flying her way to becoming a commercial pilot. With this, she hopes to education and inspire more young women to join the aviation field and merge that with S.T.E.M. education initiatives.
