Empowering Women – A ‘Whole-istic’ Experience will dive into the challenges women face in today’s world and how to overcome obstacles through presentations, activities and networking with women from across the state. There will also be opportunities to connect with local organizations that utilize their platforms to support women across the country. Light hor d’oeuvres will be provided during the day, and a cash bar happy hour reception will conclude the day’s activities. 

Tickets are $40 for Saint Paul Festival and Heritage Foundation Members, and $50 for nonmembers.

Jilla Nadimi

Jilla Nadimi, growing up as an immigrant, found community to be an essential resource. Throughout her youth, Girl Scouts nurtured this passion as she earned her Gold Award. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota in French and Global Studies, she continues to build community both at home and abroad. Currently, as a Monitoring & Evaluation Officer for the American Refugee Committee, she supports field teams in providing aid to refugees and internally displaced persons in countries including Rwanda, Somalia, and Syria. Through her involvement with the Saint Paul Winter Carnival, she will expand her community service locally and proudly represent the city she loves.  The royal family plays an important part in the Winter Carnival and are responsible for representing the city of  Saint Paul and the Winter Carnival throughout the city, metro, state and even into Canada.

 

Kris Taylor

Kris Taylor is vice president of Global Community Relations for Ecolab and is responsible for the development and execution of Ecolab’s global civic and community-based programs and also is vice president of the Ecolab Foundation. Under her direction, Ecolab has been recognized for its commitment to the community in The Civic 50, an annual initiative led by the National Conference on Citizenship and Points of Light that identifies and recognizes companies for their commitment to improving the quality of life in the communities where they conduct business.

 

 

 

Susan Kimberly

Susan Kimberly’s former career spans decades of service in Saint Paul and Saint Paul City government including her role as the Deputy Mayor. Susan is currently devoting her time to producing a play she has written entitled SUPERMAN BECOMES LOIS LANE which chronicles my personal transition from man to woman.  In addition to telling the story of how Bob Sylvester became Susan Kimberly who, in turn, became the first transgender woman to become the Deputy Mayor of a major American city, it illustrates the importance of discovering one’s dreams and living the life one has imagined.
