Join us for the lighting of the 2018 Winter Carnival Ice Palace in Rice Park on January 25 at 6:45 p.m.!
When the Moon Glow Pedestrian Parade arrives in Rice Park, we’ll flip the switch to light the Ecolab Ice Palace. Featuring live entertainment and special features from performance groups throughout the community, you won’t want to miss this fun light show to kick off this “super” year!
Winter Carnival Supporters,
When the world comes to Minnesota for the Super Bowl, we want our “Coolest Celebration on Earth” to be their destination. The Capital City’s historic Rice Park will act as center stage for the Saint Paul Winter Carnival and create a winter gathering place for our community and visitors alike to celebrate the rich history of Saint Paul.
In addition to the exciting features and traditions of the 132nd Saint Paul Winter Carnival, the Saint Paul Festival & Heritage Foundation (SPFHF) will be building a 4,000 block, 70-foot tall Ice Palace in the heart of Rice Park to exemplify our winter festivities during this “super” year. This majestic ice palace will shine over Rice Park throughout the extended 17-day Carnival as we welcome Minnesotans and visitors from across the country to our radiant Capital City.
Much like Winter Carnival, the palace will be a free attraction accompanied by live music, ice carvings, theme days and more. The ice palace will be a place for everyone from across the community to gather and create memories to last a lifetime. It will draw on the rich history of our ice palace tradition and introduce the Carnival to new audiences at the same time.
Throughout our planning process, there has been a significant amount of grassroots and community support to create a palace from businesses and individuals alike. Volunteers dedicated to the ice palace have helped raise enough funds and other support from businesses and individuals to support the construction and are still continuing to raise donations and other support for the ice palace.
Now is the time for our members and community supporters to get involved. Our “Buy a Block” initiative is a special way for the community to be part of the Ice Palace through a crowd-funding program that will allow people to sponsor individual blocks of ice that will be used to build the structure. These blocks, and similar packages, will give the community the chance to have a direct connection to the palace and to able to share their own connections to the Winter Carnival.
The support you can lend to this project is not only in dollars and cents, but, in the spirit of the community of Saint Paul. Together we will build an Ice Palace for the Saint Paul community to be proud of and showcase how we celebrate winter to the rest of the world.
