Rice Park is a winter wonderland throughout all of Saint Paul Winter Carnival.  It is free and open to the public.  Highlights include ice sculptures on display, sit in a Royal Throne made of ice, view the Ice Castle Sponsor Wall,  live entertainment on the Rice Park stage, vendor booths and other activities.

It is decorate with beautiful lights and greenery.

And, if you’re so inclined, enjoy a Summit beer or Cannon River wine at the ice bar!

Saint Paul Winter Carnival Ice Carvings

Completed carvings may be viewed throughout the Winter Carnival (see open hours below). This signature Winter Carnival event returned as blocks of ice were transformed into beautiful masterpieces. Endless photo opportunities are available in Rice Park with the completed creations. Both team and individual ice carving competitions are guided by a strict set of rules, requiring artists to utilize their best creative thinking. The King Boreas Grande Day Parade is our daytime procession down West 7th Street featuring dozens of bands, floats and, of course, the newly crowned King Boreas and his Royal Family. Overthrow of King Boreas

Immediately following the Torchlight parade, on the steps of the James J. Hill Library near Rice Park. Watch as Vulcanus Rex storms the magnificent "ice" castle and confronts the Royal King's Guard.  Upon the good counsel of the Queen, Boreas waves farewell to the people of his winter capitol and Vulcanus once again rules the land. Fireworks and live music immediately follow in Rice Park.
