Q: How much does it cost to attend Saint Paul Winter Carnival?

A: New this year, the Saint Paul Winter Carnival will host a legendary Drive-Thru Ice & Snow Sculpture Park at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. Tickets are per vehicle (good for everyone in your car) and range from $20-35 + service fees based on the ticket type you select (General Admission-VIP). More information can be found on our FAQ specifically dedicated to our Drive-Thru Event. Other activities, including virtual experiences, are offered at a low cost/free option. Check the individual event listing to see if there is a cost. 

Q: Where and when are the activities?

A: In a change from years past, the Winter Carnival Ice Carvings will move from Rice Park to the Minnesota State Fairgrounds (1265 Snelling Ave N, St Paul, MN 55108) to create the Ice and Snow Sculpture Park. Other activities, including virtual experiences, will take place all over the City of Saint Paul and surrounding communities. Please see specific events for more information.

Q: How should I dress for this event?

A: If you’re joining us for our new Drive-Thru event, you’ll be able to enjoy the experience through your warm car and you will not be allowed to exit your vehicle, so no additional heavy winter gear is required. Please see specific events to determine if the event is outdoors, indoors or virtual. 

Q: Where do I find information about family-friendly events?

A: Visit our event calendar and select family-friendly events as a category.  This will then provide a list of activities.  Other categories include What’s New, Virtual Events and Outdoor Activities!

Q: Can I be a vendor at this event?

A: Yes!  Please visit the Forms page for more information and to see what opportunities are available.

Q: Can I volunteer at this event?

A: Yes.  We use over 400 volunteers throughout the course of the 10 days and we would love your help!  Please visit our volunteer page to learn more about the opportunities available.

Q: Can I provide entertainment at this event?

A: Yes.  Our entertainment series might look a little different this year, but please email us at if you’re interested in working together. Fair warning…we have a very small budget for entertainment but we would love to hear from you if you’re interested.  

Q:  Why should I buy a button?

A:  Oh…lots of reasons!  Button sales, one of the year’s largest fundraisers, help keep the Saint Paul Winter Carnival free to the public. Buttons can be purchased online, through one of many retailers OR through many individuals and organizations selling them.  Register your button to win great prizes!  Also, having a button gains you discounted admission into many Saint Paul Winter Carnival events and local businesses.  Also, these are a collector’s items that can be kept for many years!

Q: Will there be any ice carvings in Rice Park this year?

A: In a change from years past, the Winter Carnival Ice Carvings will move from Rice Park to the Fairgrounds to create the Ice and Snow Sculpture Park. The Winter Carnival Vulcans will, once again, manage the snow sculpture attraction and the annual Snow Stomp event that is used to create the huge blocks for artists to sculpt their snowy works of art. There will be no snow slide or snow park as part of this year’s event. All sculptures will be featured in the Drive-Thru event.
